Sleepy Creek

The Bear Spirit Mountain Team investigation at Sleepy Creek reveals a stunning concentric ring ceremonial circle. This intricate structure, with its carefully arranged stones forming nested rings, suggests a sacred space where rituals and gatherings once honored the land, their Ancestors, and the Creator.

Large petroglyphs discovered within the site are believed to have served as wayfinding markers, guiding Native American travelers through the terrain with symbols of direction and meaning.

Indigenous tools and handheld rock art, resembling altar rocks, were placed in specific locations, likely as offerings to the Creator. Soot marks on rock walls and shelter stones suggest fires that provided warmth for travelers, while the tools reflect the daily activities of survival and skilled craftsmanship.

This sacred site, blending ceremonial grandeur with practical function, stands as a testament to the ingenuity and resilience of the Native American people, their legacy etched into the landscape of Sleepy Creek.
