Runnymeade

The Runnymede Site offers a fascinating window into layers of human history spanning thousands of years. As part of an 18th-century archaeological survey, the Bear Spirit Mountain Team worked to uncover the story behind a set of foundation remnants, ultimately determining that the structure was once a kitchen house. Over the course of six months, careful excavation revealed not only artifacts from the colonial era but also items of Indigenous origin, mingled together in the soil—a striking reminder of the many peoples who left their mark on this place.

Among the most remarkable finds was a finely crafted “Lost Lake” arrowhead, dating back to the Archaic Period some 6,000 years ago. This discovery speaks to a continuous presence at Runnymede, where countless generations lived, worked, and thrived long before the kitchen house stood. Today, the site stands as a layered tapestry of history, telling stories of cultural intersection, resilience, and enduring connection to the land.
