Niches Stones

Niches Stones – A modern version of the “Split Stone.”

Near the beginning of the Woodland Period, my research has shown that for whatever reason, Split Stones fell out of favor and “Niche Stones” took their place as portals for the Ancestor Spirits to join our world.

Niche Stones are fully man-made, having two small vertically shaped stones providing support to one flat arched shaped stone laying on top of the vertical stones.

I have seen Nice Stones used on Earthen Burial Mounds typically placed in the Northwest direction, or at the beginning of the Earthen Mound.  Other times I have found them at stone mound burial grounds.  I have also seen them placed near Ceremonial Circles.
